Leisure Activites in Perthshire
Crianlarich is very well situated for exploring a wide area of the Scottish Highlands and Central Scotland.
Glencoe, Inveraray Castle, Callander and The Trossachs are all close at hand.
Further afield, there are a number of sight-seeing opportunities within an hour's drive, including Stirling Castle, Oban, Glasgow, Ben Nevis and Fort William.
Lochs and castles are abundant in the region and there is much to discover about the history of Tyndrum and Crianlarich - the area known as 'Strathfillan' to locals.
The landscape was formed by a great glacier during the Ice Age which spread from Ben Lui at the west end of Glen Cononish, down the Strath towards Killin and Loch Tay.
Ben Lui is the source of the River Tay, which is given 3 local names on its way to the loch - the Cononish, the Fillan and the Dochart.
The Falls of Dochart are a particularly famous and strikingly picturesque landmark.
Opportunities to sample the 'Great Outdoors' abound in this part of the Scottish Highlands. Crianlarich is half way along the West Highland Way - a 100 mile long distance walk.
The West Highland Way starts just north of Glasgow and ends at Fort William, so staying in Crianlarich is an ideal way to see a good stretch of the walk.
Crianlarich is also surrounded by some of the highest mountains and hills in Scotland, with the opportunity to climb a number of Munro's [mountains over 3000 feet above sea level].
Indeed Ben More, which overlooks the hotel, is over 3800 feet high and in addition, there are Stob Binnein, Cruach Ardrasin as well as Ben Lui, Ben Dorain, Ben Challum and Ben Lawers all waiting to be climbed.
There is also a wide choice of easy walks that start at the hotel, and for golf enthusiasts, there are golf courses at Killin, Dalmally, Drieff and Comrie - all within a short drive by car.
Horse Riding and Canoeing is available nearby and can be arranged for hotel guests either before or after arrival.
For those interested in history, Christianity arrived in Strathfillan during the early 7th century - see Strathfillan Historical Timeline for more information.
